About

Ms. Matthews is a Department of Army (DA) Civilian System Engineer.  She is a member of the Army Acquisition Corps, Level III certified in Systems Engineering and Program Management. Ms. Matthews earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Jackson State University and a Master of Science in Management Information Systems from Florida Institute of Technology. She also earned her Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification, Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC) Designation, Certificate in Financial Planning, and Executive Leadership Coaching.


Ms. Matthews’ civil service career began in September 2006 with the Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) Aviation & Missile Center (Redstone Arsenal, AL).  Before joining CCDC, Ms. Matthews worked in the private sector for Eveready Battery Company, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), Oracle, and International Business Machines (IBM) for more than 15 years. During her private sector career, she worked as a Software Developer, Programmer Analyst, Software Engineer, Test Manager, and Project Manager.


Ms. Matthews is Vice-Chair of Hogan YMCA, Treasurer of the Professional Football Players Mothers Association (PFPMA), Director of The Matthews Mission Fund, and a board member for Madison Visionary Partners (MVP) and Madison Station Historic Preservation Commission (HPC).  Ms. Matthews is a member of the Madison Rotary and the Women's Economic Development Council (WEDC).  As a member of Leadership Greater Huntsville (FOCUS 25 and FLAGSHIP 27), Ms. Matthews and other leaders seek opportunities to improve the entire community. Ms. Matthews is an active life member with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, and her al mater, Jackson State University.  In support of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) initiative, Ms. Matthews volunteered with the Girls’ Science and Engineering Day at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) and as an eCYBERMISSION vital judge.  Additionally, she volunteered with Village of Promise and Manna House and was a mentor for the AUM Foundation.


Ms. Matthews has achieved several noteworthy awards during her professional career, including the Army Acquisition Excellence (Information Enabled), Commander's Coin, Special-Act, Go-Live, On-The-Spot, Employee of the Month, Employee of the Quarter, and Employee of the Year.


The small-town girl from Crawford, Mississippi, has resided in Madison, AL, for more than 25 years. Ms. Matthews and her husband, Roderick (Rod), have two sons, Justin R (Dorothy) and Jordan A (Cheyna), and 3 grandsons, Josiah, Lionel, and Cairo.  


Hobbies and special interests include volunteering, mentoring, spending time with family, sports, listening to music, exercising, gardening, and reading.
