Connecting Event: Float the Flint with WEDC

FLOAT THE FLINT WITH WEDC!

Grab your sunscreen, pack the cooler, and join your fellow WEDC members for one of our favorite summer traditions: Float the Flint!

We’ll meet at North Alabama Canoe & Kayak (NACK) on Highway 72 East at 9:30 AM to complete waivers, grab our gear, and get ready for a relaxing day on the Flint River. Beginners are absolutely welcome, so no kayaking expertise required!

We’ll load into the NACK vans and plan to shove off by 10:00 AM sharp. Our float could last up to four hours, depending on how leisurely we take it and how many stops we make along the way.

Cost: 

$50 per person if renting kayak  |  $35 if bringing your own  | Dry box rental $30

Pay at NACK. CASH ONLY. (There is an ATM at NACK.) Please bring a little extra cash if you’d like to purchase bottled water or tip the van drivers. 

What to Bring:

Pack a small cooler with drinks and snacks to enjoy and share along the way. Don’t forget sunscreen, a hat, plenty of water, and anything else you’ll want for a few hours on the river. You may also want to leave a dry change of clothes for when we return.

If you have your own kayak you are welcome to bring it!

A Note About Weather ☔

Because Mother Nature gets a vote, we’ll be watching the forecast closely. If the chance of rain for Sunday is greater than 50%, we’ll move our float to Saturday, August 29, with the same 9:30 AM meet-up time. Keep an eye out for updates as the weekend approaches.
