In March of 2020, Valerie won the Republican Primary in her bid for Madison County Tax Collector and then in November, 2020 won in the General Election. Upon the early retirement of the sitting Tax Collector, Valerie was appointed by the Governor to fulfill her remaining term beginning August 2, 2021 and will then begin her elected 6 year term October, 2021. 

 Valerie was born and raised in Madison County and has been a Madison City resident for 53 years. She Graduated from Westminster Christian Academy in 1981. This is where Valerie and her husband, Joe raised their three children. All three went through the Madison City School system from kindergarten through graduation from Bob Jones High School. Joe and Valerie have three grandchildren.  

 Valerie has been a full time Realtor for 36 years, obtaining her Real Estate License in 1986. Working side by side with her mother, husband, sister and daughter in the family business. She has served as the Huntsville Area Association of Realtors as President in 2011 & 2018 – one of only 5 Presidents in the history of the Association to have been elected to serve twice. Valerie is an Associate Broker of RE/MAX Unlimited in Madison and Broker of Frank Dawson Realty Co., Inc. (Property Management Company) and is a proud graduate of Leadership Huntsville/Madison County Class 25 – L25.
